Independence Day
Here in the US, we celebrate July 4th as the day America gained independence from England. We have fireworks, cookouts (barbeques) in the back yard, and all sorts of parades and concerts, depending where you live. In France, July 14th is their independence daym called Jour de La Bastille. As I recall, in Belgium it is July 21st of 22nd but I forget the name.
What are your Independence Day traditions? Do you always go to a certain family’s cookout? Can’t wait to see the fireworks? Do you watch or actually participate in a parade? Do you wear red, white and blue? Ever made one of those cakes with Cool Whip and berries to make it look like the American flag?
I don’t really have a tradition. Sometimes I go to see the fireworks but it’s tough with traffic and parking and you have to get there really early. Then when it’s time to leave, it’s a really long wait. Sometimes I get invited to cookouts and other times I’m the one who hosts. My friends and I haven’t really set up a July 4th routine! This year, we will go to a cookout for a friend whose one year old son will celebrate his first birthday. He’ll always have lots of fun for his birthday parties because it’s July 5th, so there’s always going to be cookouts and parades for his special day!

I don’t have any specific traditions either, but this year I’m going to a family cookout. We went to the fireworks when I was little, but not anymore… *nostalgic sigh*

I don’t really have any traditions at my house but I do usually go to my 3 year old cousins birthday party near the fourth of july. I don’t know if his birthday is July 4th or if it’s like the day before or after. This year he’s turning 4!!!

Comment est ta été?
On July 4th morning I took my dogs (all clad in bandanas around their necks with flags on them) to the parade in Barnstable (on 6A). There were lots of dogs and therefore it was a very adorable spectacle. They also judged dogs in their size categories and Jake won 2nd in the “big” category. Later that day I went with mom, dad, Caroline and my grandpa to the parade in Hyannis. It was no where near as big as years past and ended abruptedly. I did get some candy though! I was going to go to the fireworks but my sister had a headache so we stayed at home. What did you do for the 4th of July?

Bonjour Mlle. Watson! How’s your summer so far? I don’t know if you’ve heard of this website, but it’s called Freerice and you answer vocab questions and the website gives 10 grains of rice away for every question answered right. There’s an option to have questions with French vocab!! You have to pick what the word is in english. Here’s the link: http://freerice.com/index.php?&t=150146434400&s=French
