Les Voitures
Les Francais have no problem driving tiny cars. Here in America, when the Mini came back and the new Smartcars were introduced, some people thought they were way too small and dangerous. In France, most cars are small like this. This picture is of an old car in France, but many are this size. Since large cars are not all that common, it’s not so dangerous to drive a smaller car because you probably aren’t likely to hit a large truck or car. Why do you think the French drive smaller cars?

I think the French drive smaller cars because their streets are older than our’s, which causes them to be narrow ( the streets were originally made for horses not cars).
When I was in Paris I never actually saw a Smart car, plenty of small cars though, but I did see Smart cars in Germany.

seawolf- what were the cars like in Ireland?
October 13th, 2009 at 3:49 pm
In Ireland pretty much all of the cars were small, but I don’t think I saw any Smart cars. In Ireland on the country roads the cars would have to be small or they wouldn’t fit (problems come along, though, when two cars are going in opposite directions- that results in each car having to go partially off of the road).
In Ireland whoever created the speed limits seemed to have a strange sense of humor. The wide, flat, and open roads are 60km, while the twisty and curvy country roads have a speed limit of 80km.

I think it’s cool they drive around in little cars. It’s not something you see everyday. I think it would be cool to go to france one day.

I think the French drive smaller cars because of how many people roam the streets. Plus all of the mopeds and things that cruise along also if there are bigger cars then there is more of a chance of people getting hit. Also the streets are not that large. Maybe also they dont see a need for large cars because i thin k they mostly walk. but this is my opinion.

I think the french drive smaller cars becauce they do alot of biking and waking. Smaller cars generally use less gas but are not french cars. I also think smaller cars are better quality compared to big cars that cumble up if you hit a dunkin donuts (it happend to me).

i think that they use smaller cars then we do becaouse they dont want to poullute their air

I think the french drive smaller cars than ours because France is almost a city and in city’s people normally walk to places like in Boston i always see people walking to were they need to go to. But people who have a job far away or go to school far away might need to drive to were there going and back in France.

You are all so smart! In France, you are correct, they have very narrow roads. Big cars like Hummers and big trucks just don’t work well in the tiny streets and neighborhoods that you find in Europe. Of course they have them, you just don’t see them very often. Most people have little cars that they can just zip around in with no problem. Lots of people also have scooters that they ride because it’s easy to park a scooter and they can dodge traffic pretty easily. There’s one more reason they have small cars. What do you think that might be?

I think driving little cars is so common in France because the roads are much narrower and smaller. But i think the little cars although dangerous are cool but when i drive i don,t think i would ever want to drive a small car because they are probably tiny in the inside and i am claustrophobic

i wouldnt like riding in a car that small ,but riding a scooter would be fun .

beacuse of the narrow roads, and some C02 emissions i think? :]

I think the cars are smaller because the roads could be narrower, it’s more convienant, and it’s eco-friendly.

Because there streets are so narrow if the drove big cars there would be a lot of acsidents.

I think they have more smaller cars ’cause it’s France, and it’s supposed to be a more peaceful environment, and it’s not as peaceful if there are like all sorts of huge cars and such, also they probably don’t even use cars so much, because if there anything like Quebec people they are probably in better shape and could probably use like scooters or the, metro, i think it’s called, or they could just walk.

I think it’s because the roads are very thin in the cities, plus gas is very expensive.

I think i would go crazy if i had to drive in a small car like that ! I just personaly feel more safe in a larger car , then a smaller one.

i think they drive small cars in france because there streets are so narrow and there are alot of people on bikes and walking and things like that
November 12th, 2009 at 7:29 pm
i dont know why this is but im guessing by pictures i have scene its because of the size of the streets- pretty small compared to are streets.
November 13th, 2009 at 6:32 pm
i think that they made the cars small because the streets were so narrow and maybe the marketplaces were there which made it smaller, and how close they made the houses together.
November 23rd, 2009 at 7:20 pm
I think that the roads are much more narrower because in France there is smaller streets originally made for walking , carriges and horses. I think the roads are made of cobble stone and are very bumpy because the filling around it (dirt) is hard to get between the rocks without covering up the stones. Elizabeth

I wouldn’t drive the small cars because theres no room for you’re stuff and its probably stuffy and cramped
